Mutiu Adepoju, a former Super Eagles player, has questioned Coach Gernot Rohr's decision to reinstate Odion Ighalo to the team.
The coach recently revealed his intention to bring back the striker who left the squad two years ago. Ighalo, on the other hand, is yet to respond. However,
speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 40th edition of the CBN Governor's Cup final, which was held at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, the former Super Eagles striker said that while Ighalo is a powerful striker, there are younger players in the national team who are doing well in their clubs.
"I admire Ighalo as a player, and he's a very talented striker," he remarked. He left the Super Eagles roughly two years ago, and I feel we have attackers on the team who are capable of replacing him.
“However, if he (Ighalo) is now recalled to perform what the strikers are doing, I'm not sure why. We have Osihmen, who is a prolific scorer for his team, Kelechi Iheanacho, Awoniyi, and a slew of other players, but what I'm saying is just my opinion.
"If we can get some players!" Do we still need to recall Ighalo, who is doing admirably and scoring goals for his club? It's simply my point of view."
